Module 1: Welcome

Time: 2.5 minutes

Hear an overview of the workshop and each module and consider what the term "older adult" means.

Module 2: Walking and Older Adults

Time: 4.5 minutes

Learn about the benefits of walking, especially for older pedestrians, and some of the barriers that make it difficult to walk.

Module 3: Watching Out for Us!

Time: 16 minutes

Find out about traffic situations that increase the chances of an older pedestrian being hit by a vehicle and what a pedestrian can do to better control these situations.

Module 4: The Walking Environment

Time: 9.5 minutes

Learn about how the physical environment — sidewalks, crosswalks, and other things — can make walking safer and more comfortable.

Module 5: Completing the Picture

Time: 15 minutes

Understand how educating drivers and community members can contribute to safer conditions for walking and how both education and law enforcement methods can improve behavior. Hear examples of ways to encourage walking where appropriate.

Module 6: Taking an Observational Walk

Time: 1.5 minutes

Prepare for and take a walk to observe pedestrian and driver behavior and look at the physical environment.

Module 7: Discussion and Next Steps

Time: 3 minutes

Synthesize observations from the walk and consider how to help a community take action.
